Otto Müller 'P3' Bauhaus Pendant for Sistrah / Megaphos, Germany, 1931.
This is a wonderful and highly original Bauhaus pendant lamp by designer Otto Müller. Designed in 1931, this series of lamps was designed to compete with the Danish PH-lamps by Poul Henningsen. This one - with a 30 cm glass shade - is the 'P3'. The name ‘Sistrah’ derives from the German phrase, “sie strahlt hell” - which translates as “she shines brightly”. Outside Germany, the name Megaphos was used.
An ingenious design, this lamp combines several glass parts - both transparant and opaline - to create a light that is pleasant and, very important, not blinding or dazzling. A great and quintessential Bauhaus design.
This particular pendant comes in a very good and highly original condition with no faults.
