ZERO Inspired Light Sculpture 1960s
ZERO Inspired Light Sculpture, The Netherlands, 1960s.
This is something very special. Bought by the first owner at luxury departement store De Bijenkorf somewhere in the end of the 1960’s, this light sculpture is probably made in a very small series or even completely unique. Around that time, the department store gave young artists the opportunity to display and sell their experimental works. It may well be that this lamp / light sculpture is part of that experimental phase.
It is clearly inspired by works of the German ZERO movement with Heinz Mack and Otto Piene – or the Dutch NUL-group with artist like Jan Schoonhoven, Hendrikse and Peeters. With some imagination it could well have been a work by Schoonhoven, although he obviously never made these kind of sculptures. In essence, it is a steel wire frame, surrounded by a paper-like, translucent substance.
The cover can be removed to change the lamp.
