Floris Fiedeldij Unique Prototype Floor Lamp for Artimeta
Floris Fiedeldij Unique Prototype Floor Lamp for Artimeta, The Netherlands.
This is a hand made prototype floor lamp from Floris Fiedeldij's own living room. We bought it a long time ago from the widow of Fiedeldij and can therefore assure you that this lamp stood in his own living room for many years. And what a lamp it is! A very special model, which looks subtle and minimalistic at the same time, yet very complex in form and function. Because you can turn it at various points, the lamp is created in such a way that you can use it anyway you want. As a normal reading lamp, but also for (partly) indirect light with the hood upright.
The design is attractively three-dimensional due to the angled part in the stem that you can turn independently of the hood. The hood itself can also be used in various different ways. The overall design is timeless and slender. The hood in particular is beautifully simple in shape and very well proportioned. Also, the recessed back of the shade is a nice detail. The lamp is painted white and it is a handmade prototype.
This makes it a unique lamp that you will not find anywhere in the world, from a designer who was important in the Dutch design world of the mid-20th century and who also played an important role in the popularization of modern French design because with his company Artimeta he was the official Dutch importer of - for example - the furniture of Pierre Gauriche and Mathieu Mategot.
