Floor lamp in cocoon and patinated brass, mid 20th century.
This remarkable and handsome lamp is a real gem. It is a beautiful delicate floor lamp with a shade covered with so-called cocoon material. Originally a material used by the US military to transport things well protected, its use with lamps first emerged in the early 1960s. It is known from early FLOS lamps designed by the Castiglioni brothers and works by George Nelson. The floor lamp in our collection is a very rare lamp due to the use of this cocoon material together with luxurious brass fittings. The beautiful tripod base and the original switch in patinated brass are just a feast for the eyes.
Although we don’t know who designed this lamp, it must have been a top notch designer. The shade is patinated beautifully and gained a very rich dark color. When the lamp is switched on it spreads a very warm and pleasant light. It is in real honest original condition with all the original fittings in place.
Overall it has a real nice patina which only adds to the charm of this rare floor lamp.
