Ludovico Diaz de Santillana Table Lamp for Venini, Italy, 1960s.
This rare table lamp shows the exquisite finesse of the work of Ludovico Diaz de Santillana (1931-1989). Its large shade is very thin and shows this highly remarkable immersive pattern, which is also used in the well proportioned thick round base. The glass top is a clear half sphere with a small circular opening on top, reveiling a hint of uplight. The firm pillar holding the shade is made in brass, showing a wonderful patina. This large table lamp has a luxurious and warm look, with striking colors in warm earthtly tones.
It is a true piece of glass art, both switched on and off it has a majestic appearance. The piece is in well preserved condition, showing only a minor chip on the inside of the upper rim of the shade. Nevertheless, this stunning conversation piece will look breathtaking on your table or sideboard.
Ludovico Diaz de Santillana was the head of famous Murano glass house Venini from 1960 till 1985. He designed multiple collections and worked together with famous designers on lamps, vases and other decorative art glass. He was married with Anna Venini, the daughter of Venini founder Paolo Venini. Laura Diaz de Santillana (1955-2019) and Alessandro Diaz de Santillana (1959-) – famous glass artist and designers – are their children.
