It is a wonderful little gem, this vase designed by Gio Ponti and made by Richard Ginori in the 1930s. Great simple design and beautiful contrast between the terracotta and the gold. Part of a series of terracotta and gold bowls and vases designed by Ponti and made by Ginori in the 1930s.
At the beginning of his famous career Giò Ponti (1891 – 1979) was art director for the Italian ceramics factory Richard Ginori. At this time he designed numerous pieces for the company, including this wonderful vase in gold and terracotta. This is a very understated design, but due to the striking gold colored interior it really is a beautiful piece. It shows beautiful design can be very simple.
